Chapter Nine

The next morning, Omar personally escorted Lia to the Sapphire so that he could introduce her to the staff and show her to her temporary office.

"The Sapphire is our largest hotel yet," he explained as they sat in the backseat of the SUV. "So it's understandable that you will have a bit of trouble finding your way around the first few days. The staff will assist you, and we also have maps printed out for guests."

"Maps?" Lia arched her brow. "Is this a hotel? Or is this Disneyland?"

Omar only smiled. "You shall see."

Lia wasn't sure she would see... until they turned down a road and onto a bridge that spanned across the Gulf, leading straight to a man-made island. Her jaw dropped at the sight of a sprawling sapphire blue complex that was a cross between a hotel and a palace — the building rose straight up for seven stories, curving around to form a half circle, but it was crowned with domes very similar to Omar's own domain. From here she could see smaller buildings scattered across the extensive, tree-covered grounds, where she imagined pools, golf courses, and other amenities lay hidden.

"Holy shit," she breathed, and then clapped her hands over her mouth. Omar gave her a mild look, but otherwise said nothing about the profanity. "Sorry, it's just that — are you crazy? You want me to manage this whole thing by myself?"

Omar arched a brow. "Didn't you do any research on the hotel? I did give you the name."

A blush crept up her cheeks. "I think I did, but my brain was half-dead, and it didn't really sink into me." She eyed the palace as they crossed onto the island, craning her neck as it loomed up over them. "It's a lot bigger up close."

Omar squeezed her hand. "You'll do fine," he murmured, leaning in for a quick kiss. "I have over four hundred staff to assist you."

Lia swallowed hard. Four hundred staff? That was four times the number of employees she had to manage at the Elegante. If she survived this, she was absolutely putting this on her resume. Who knew, maybe corporate would promote her as the hotel manager and her boss would end up having to assist.

Ha! The very idea brought a smile to her face.

They pulled up in front of the entrance to the hotel, and Omar gave her one last kiss before escorting her inside. He introduced her to the assistant manager, who was named Yousef Al-Hajiri, and the key staff, then told her to call her if she ran into any trouble with the employees.

"I won't be able to pick you up tonight," he said, regret tingeing his deep voice. "But I'll join you for dinner, and I'll be sending my chauffeur at six o'clock so that you may dress and bathe for the occasion." The way his voice deepened at the end sent a shiver of anticipation through Lia, and she had to refrain from wetting her lips at the thought of dining with him again.
